About

VirtualEdge is an independent site with hands-on guides to virtualization and home labs. It explains hypervisors, virtual machines, containers and self-hosted tools in plain English, for people who build and run their own systems.

Who runs VirtualEdge

VirtualEdge is run by an independent publisher based in the United Kingdom. The site is not owned by, or paid by, any vendor it writes about. You can reach the publisher through the contact page.

What you will find here

  • Home lab guides. How to plan a home lab, choose hardware and start with tools such as Proxmox VE.
  • Virtualization basics. Clear explanations of hypervisors, containers and virtual machines, storage and desktop virtualization.
  • Comparisons. Honest side-by-side looks at platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox and VirtualBox.
  • Self-hosted tools. Install guides for tools you run in a VM, including AI agents.

A short history

The site started in 2009 as a virtualization blog for businesses. In October 2026 it was rebuilt around home labs and small teams. The old posts were rewritten from scratch with current tools and checked facts. Each rewritten post says so near the top.

How the guides are written

  • Sources first. Product facts, license terms and commands come from the vendor's official documentation. Guides link to those sources.
  • Dated claims. Licensing and pricing change often, so guides say when a fact was checked and ask you to confirm it on the vendor page.
  • No invented results. We do not publish benchmarks, prices or test results we have not measured. Where a guide would benefit from a measured result, we add it only after a real lab run.
  • Review before publishing. Each guide is checked for technical accuracy and clarity before it goes live.
  • Corrections. If you find a mistake, use the contact page. We fix confirmed errors quickly.

Advertising and independence

VirtualEdge may show ads from Google AdSense to cover its costs. Advertisers do not choose topics or review content. The site does not accept paid posts. If affiliate links are added in future, each one will be clearly marked. The privacy policy explains how ads and analytics use cookies.
